HF Long Range Radio Communication Sailboats

For most people, sailing is synonymous with adventure and excitement. It was indeed an adventure in the old days, when communications technology was not that developed. However, even the ocean can be a lonely place to be. Today, with innovative advance in the scenario of communication, the intensity of this adventure is not like the old days. The introduction of VHF, satellite phone, SSB radio, Internet, etc. made the world so small that even sailing on the luxury ocean is like being at home. The improvement in the appearance of safety of navigation is the most important impact of these innovations. Most sailboats have these facilities so that children can get the security they require.

VHF Radio
VHF radios are a great help to sailors. It consists of both a receiver and transmitter and works in a frequency range between 156 MHz and 176. Can be used as a means of communication ports and other ships or sail boats. However, the main disadvantage of using a VHF radio is the distance from which you can communicate. This distance depends on the height of the antenna on the ship, the curvature of the earth and the point of convergence of the two. Increased distance can only be dependent on other ships. The quality of communication is also dependent on the intensity of the radio signal in the VHF radios.

SSB Radio
Single sideband or SSB radio working sets of media on the frequency and high frequency. The works of average frequency as the wave of land that is suitable for ranges from 30 to 300 miles. Beyond this point, all require high frequency at which the signal is transmitted to the ionosphere and then reflects back to the surface of the earth. The main drawback of using this radio is that the user has to adjust all the conditions of the ionosphere and the particular time of day. The game also allows users to send emails, but the slow speed may make this a tedious thing to do.

Satellite Phone
Satellite phones make direct use of orbiting communication satellites. Most of the new era HF sailboats are using this medium of communication because of the high efficiency of the medium. There are four main communication networks present now. The four existing communication networks are Inmarsat, Iridium, Globalstar and Thuraya.

The long-distance sailing make use of Iridium, because it uses an extensive network of low orbit satellites. In fact, there are low-orbit satellites of the network are only 480 miles above the earth's surface. This is the reason that the network provides global coverage. The network works even in polar regions. Internet access is also considerably faster in this network. You can send a maximum of twenty emails a minute using this network.

RLS
Emergency Positioning Indicating Radio Beacon, which is also known as RLS is used for communication of distress when the boat is in danger. These safety equipment and is not used for normal communication purpose. When water enters the device, it automatically sends a distress signal that has the latitude and longitude of your position by boat to the nearest base.

Most HF sailboats use these old media and ensure the safety of the vessel, and seamen.
